XIAMEN, China, July 9th, 2018 -- the opening ceremony of 2018 IEEE SPS Summer School took place successfully in Room 302 of Teaching Building of Sea Lilt Park of Xiamen University. Many experts and professors were invited to attend this ceremony, including General Chair Prof. Jun Li, Dean of School of Information Science and Technology of Xiamen University, China; General Co-Chair Prof. Rongshan Yu, Director of Digital Fujian Institution of Healthcare and Biomedical Big Data (iHealD), China; TPC Chair Dr. Yen-Kuang Chen, Principle Engineer at Intel Corp, USA; Dr. Shipeng Li, Vice President, iFLYTEK CO., LTD, State-Recruited Expert, Joint Secretary General of AI Industry Technology Innovation Strategy Alliance, former CTO of Cogobuy Group and IngDan; Prof. Guan Cuntai, School of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Engineering, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore; Prof. Chia-Wen Lin, Department of Electrical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan R.O.C.; Prof. An-Yeu (Andy) Wu, EE Department and Graduate Institute of Electronics Engineering, National Taiwan University; Prof. Emil Jovanov, Director of Real-Time Physiological Monitoring Laboratory; Dr. Wenxian Yang, R&D Director, Aginome Scientific Inc., China; Dr. Hongtao Jia, Vice President, Anhui Sinobioway Tianjia Genomics Inc., China; Dr. Toktam Mahmoodi, Senior Lecturer, Centre for Telecommunications Research, King’s College London, UK; Dr. Xiaoliang Fan, School of Information Science and Technology of Xiamen University, and so on.

In the beginning, Prof. Jun Li addressed the opening ceremony and expressed expectations for the event and his thanks to the top technical experts, participants and student volunteers. Later, Prof. Rongshan Yu gave an opening speech. He introduced the purpose of the Internet of Things Special Interest Group, as well as announced the agenda of the summer school, including the speakers and their tutorial topics. All the experts and participants took a group photo marking the perfect ending of the ceremony. Taking a break, Dr. Yen-Kuang Chen gave the first tutorial of the summer school with the topic of Challenges and opportunities in IoT. All participants benefited a lot and had intense discussions with the speaker after the tutorial. In the end, all the experts received a well-prepared gift for spending all the efforts to Xiamen to deliver lectures.
